Trip Overview

This is a short trek, near Thimphu, to a large number of lovely high-altitude lakes. You pass through terraced paddy fields and through coniferous forests, to the settlements of Geynikha, 2,500 meters. The trail leads up the ridge and across meadows to a pass at 4,300 meters with a spectacular view of the whole Dagala range. You will pass through several yak herders camps en route to the broad Labatama valley at 4,050 meters. The lakes are flourished with brown trout. Near the lakes is a mass of wild alpine which flowers in September. The routes are not well marked; it is more of a cross-country traverse. The trail descends steeply through a mixed forest of rhododendron.

Nepal is a nation between India and Tibet known for its temples and Himalayan mountains, which include Mt. Everest. Kathmandu, the capital, has a mazelike old quarter filled with Hindu and Buddhist shrines.

We did the 12-day itinerary trekking to Everest Base Camp. We booked it all from England and communicated with the owner Hari via email. Such a nice family that owns and runs this business. Very friendly and welcoming. We had loads of cups of tea with them in their shop in Thamel before and after our trek.
