Trip Overview

This is the best trek in Nepal, the terrain is varied and there is a remote 11th Century Monastery along the route. The trail goes north of the main chain, across a number of high mountain passes onto part of the Tibetan plateau offering great views of the Annapurna Range. The path follows that in the famous book The Snow Leopard around frozen peaks and canyons. The terrain is green and lush on the southern side and arid on the Tibetan side. Very few visitors have traveled to this area, the region has only been open to the outside world since 1988.

A wild and harsh land, with no tourists and even few hikers, and with, here and there, a few villages. Wonderful landscapes, monasteries … poor ones, people, yaks of course, and this feeling of being very very far away.

We start our trek from Juphal, after two short flights to Nepalgunj on the first day and to Juphal on the second day. Trekking through the nice village-like Do tarap and Shey Gompa crossing through the high and remote alpine area and passes take us to beautiful Shey Phoksundo Lake (3600m). From here we will trek back to Juphal where we catch a flight to Kathmandu.

As this is also Nepal’s demanding trek and goes through high passes and remote areas of the country where we should make a lot of ascending and descending we, therefore, recommend to attempt only for experienced trekkers. Clients carry an only daypack and walk at their own pace. Average hiking per day on this trek is 7-8 hrs.

Client's Reviews

Nepal is a nation between India and Tibet known for its temples and Himalayan mountains, which include Mt. Everest. Kathmandu, the capital, has a mazelike old quarter filled with Hindu and Buddhist shrines.

We did the 12-day itinerary trekking to Everest Base Camp. We booked it all from England and communicated with the owner Hari via email. Such a nice family that owns and runs this business. Very friendly and welcoming. We had loads of cups of tea with them in their shop in Thamel before and after our trek.
